Multiphase Flow Meter (MFM)

Multiphase flow meter (MFM) is designed for measuring the mass flow rate and total mass of liquid phase in oil-gas-water mixture (wellbore fluid). Consists of a bucket meter for wellbore fluid and an analyzer of water volume fraction in oil-gas-water mixture. Additionally, pressure sensor, temperature sensor, and sampler can be installed.

ADVANTAGES

  • real-time instantaneous measurement of flow rate and water content of oil;
  • minimal capital expenses — simple installation directly at the wellhead, compact dimensions;
  • low operating costs — no dangerous source of radioactive gamma radiation in the composition;
  • measurements in multiphase flow without gas separation;
  • high corrosion resistance independent of water salinity;
  • high repeatability of measurements;
  • mean time to failure: 105,000 hours;
  • average service life: not less than 12 years.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • measurement range of liquid phase mass flow rate: from 0.24 to 420 t/day (depending on version);
  • measured medium: gas-liquid mixture (crude oil, formation water and free oil gas);
  • operating pressure: not exceeding 6.3 MPa;
  • water volume fraction in measured medium: from 0.1 to 99.9%;
  • free gas volume content: not less than 2.0%;
  • viscosity of measured medium: not exceeding 1000 mm²/s;
  • measurement error for mass and flow rate: ±2.5% (at oil viscosity up to 200 mPa·s), ±10.0% (exceeding 200 mPa·s);
  • ambient temperature: from −60 to +50 °C;
  • power supply: direct current 9–30 V, alternating current 50 Hz 187–242 V;
  • relative humidity of ambient air: from 40 to 80%.

FIELD OF APPLICATION AND EXPERIENCE

MFM enables measurement of mass flow rate and total mass of liquid, oil well production rate in crude oil, water volume fraction, pressure and temperature of flow at the measurement point, as well as collection of well production samples. Field of application — oil and gas production industry.
