Core Sampling by SIBBURMASH: Maximum Information from Every Well
Reliable exploration begins with core quality. SibBurMash does more than just take samples — we guarantee core of enhanced information value.
Geological support of isolated (preserved) core
- treatment of the drilling fluid with a tracer and maintenance of the tracer’s working concentration;
- gamma logging of the core after recovery to surface, macro-description and photo documentation (in daylight and ultraviolet light);
- normalization of the gamma-log readings and preliminary interval-by-interval lithological typing of the rocks, followed by selection of intervals for sampling;
- visual assessment of the drilling-fluid filtrate invasion zone in the selected intervals;
- decision on the advisability of taking samples to evaluate saturation;
- preparation (separation of the zone potentially “contaminated” by filtrate) and prompt preservation of the samples.
The innovative design of the sectional isolating core barrels has secured a Russian record twice: in 2012, a 78.93 m column of preserved core was drilled and recovered to surface in a single run with 100% recovery, and in 2025 — 102.5 m with 100% recovery in a single trip.
